The weekends are so wonderful, typically they’re time off work and it can be a time of relaxation and restoration for some. However, after every weekend comes Monday. This is paired with the start of the week and it can be tough to muster up Monday work motivation to get the week going.
For years, I found Mondays to be something I would dread. It meant the start of the workweek and thinking of the upcoming week and work tasks were definitely something I would try to avoid come Monday morning.
What are your thoughts about Mondays? Are they something you’re excited about or something you dread and would like to brush right past?

My Monday Work Motivation Switch
When I created my own business at first, I thought Monday morning could be whatever I wanted it to be. I wouldn’t need to work; it could be a simple start to my week and I wouldn’t need to dread it as I did previously. Now that worked for about 3 weeks and then I began to feel about Tuesday how I use to about Monday.
I then sat down one day and wrote down all the things about Monday mornings that weren’t my favourite. Then I sat and really reflected on what Monday’s motivation for business meant for me? What did I need from Monday’s? What would make a difference with my Monday mindset?
I’m not going to lie; this did take a bit of time to really pull apart what I would like about Mondays and how to shift previous negative mindsets about Mondays.
Before I knew it, I was excited for Mondays and was eager and excited for my work week to start? How did I get here from previously wanting to be as far away from Monday as possible? Read below for some simple and easy shifts I made for Monday morning motivation for my business.

Utilizing Monday Quotes
One of the most powerful and quick switches I made was setting myself a Monday morning reminder of positive quotes. I did a quick search for motivation for Monday and found some great inspirational Monday quotes that I started to jot down in my planner on each Monday for the upcoming month. Each week when I would open my planner, instead of being hit with a long to-do list I was met with one positive thought to start my week. I did this for each new week for an entire month to see how it helped with my mindset.
I’ve always enjoyed quotes but didn’t know how strong and impactful motivational quotes would be for shifting my Monday mindset. Here is a couple that I used in my planner. Feel free to write them in your planner to help get started with Monday motivation quotes.
- Life offers you so many doors, it is up to your which to open and which one to close.
- Monday is a state of mind. Put your positive pants on and get stuff done.
- Monday sets the tone for the week. Get it done!
- Today is your opportunity to build the tomorrow you want. —Ken Poirot
- The secret of getting ahead is getting started.
- Mondays are the start of the work week which offer new beginnings 52 times a year! —David Dweck
- OK, it’s Monday but who said Mondays have to suck? Be a rebel and have a great day anyway. —Kimberly Jiménez
- Mondays are tough only for those people, who don’t know how to spend them cheerfully. Get up and have fun today!

Priorities Mindset Shift
When I was jotting down what I didn’t like about Mondays, I was able to identify that I felt overwhelmed given the lists I would make of what I wanted to do that week. My lists were always long as I have to write down everything I need to do. Once I identified this, I was able to think of ways to help shift this. I run off lists and they are important to my success and getting things done. So, what I decided was to shift how I created my lists.
What I shifted to was doing lists using priorities and colour coding to help my organization. So below my inspiration quotes to start the week I started writing a list of what needed to get done. Below that in a different pen colour a list of things that would be nice to be done. Once I was able to look at my week and see on Monday, and the days following, what was actually needed to happen I found my Monday mindset completely shifted. I no longer felt overwhelmed, and I was actually starting to channel and believe my motivational Monday quote I had each week.

Waking up earlier for Monday Work Motivation
Another one of the biggest shifts I saw was after I started waking earlier. I saw a positive impact on my Monday work motivation as I was able to get ready for work slowly. This led to when I was at work, I was able to be incredibly productive right from the start. I found an increase in focus and motivation for my morning tasks which I hadn’t found previously.
Before shifting my wake-up time I use to try to snooze as much as possible on Mondays. This meant that when I would get ready and be at my desk, I was usually still not ready to focus and get work done given my slow start. By waking up even just 20 minutes earlier you can improve your focus and concentration at work incredibly by allowing your brain time to wake up and be alert.
For myself, I found the day runs a lot quicker too when I’m being more intentional and focused about how I spend the first half of the day. I am definitely not a morning person and love a good sleep-in so this adjustment took me quite a bit of time to adjust to. Although it was hard work at the beginning, over time waking up earlier on Mondays got easier and helped with my Monday’s motivation.

Fueling your Monday!
You’ve like heard this one time and time again – what you put in your body fuels your body. I’m not a breakfast person simply because I’m not a morning person. One of the things I identified in my Mondays that I didn’t like was how tired and slow I felt. So, I thought about what helps to combat those feelings, which led me to fuel my body and my brain properly for the morning. Do you do this for yourself? Do you start your morning off with a good healthy and hearty breakfast? Honestly, to me that sounded like the people living in my Instagram Reels who had time to make this beautiful breakfast before starting their day. It didn’t seem like a reality to me. Then I started thinking about what I can do that is simple for my Monday mornings.
I started making a list of easy breakfasts that I liked and were reasonable to make for my mornings. So, I started doing some meal prep for breakfasts on the weekend. As well, paired my prepared items with quotes for Monday as well to help kick start my day. I began to create overnight oats, smoothies, precutting up fresh fruit for fruit salad and preparing all the items needed for an omelette (for the days I wanted to get fancy!). Depending on how busy my Monday looked I would pick a different item from that list of 4 that suited my morning. The mornings that are hectic and busy are best suited for overnight oats. The mornings that are a bit slower allow me to prepare food such as smoothies and omelettes.
Honestly, the positive quotes for Mondays really helped being attached to ingredients or pre-made meals as it helped remind me of my mindset before the workday even began.

Summary
Now, I’m not going to sit here and say that overnight you’re likely to fall in love with Mondays! However, by writing out a list of what you dislike about Mondays, and what you need out of your Mondays, you’ll hopefully be able to identify areas where you can change that Monday work motivation mindset!
Overall, this mindset shift for Monday took me about a month to really start to see the shifts and a couple of months for it to become habits I just began to do automatically. Mondays can be powerful and are full of opportunity, it’s all about how you frame them with your mindset!
