I absolutely adore Pinterest, and Pinterest strategies planning and testing is one of my favourite things about being a Pinterest Manager. Now, I know that not everyone feels this way and in fact, quite a few folks quite dread their time on Pinterest, however, they use it as they know the benefits are fantastic!
Pinterest is a powerful search engine that can help your business grow and thrive for years to come. On social media platforms, you must spend hours engaging, creating content, and coming up with fresh ideas. One of the great things about Pinterest is it’s a search engine which means your content is found for years. Things will come in and out of trends and you don’t need to be always thinking of new ideas.

How can Pinterest Strategies help?
If you currently are pinning here and there, occasionally signing onto Pinterest and creating pins that publish a couple of times a month – that isn’t a strategy. With Pinterest, you need to do your research and be consistent with producing fresh pins that are always going out. Now, I don’t mean you need to spend all day every day on the platform, I certainly don’t! But scheduling fresh pins to always be going out that is SEO rich and researched with trends is important.
Each account requires a different strategy, I have 9 clients currently and all of them need different things to thrive. Some accounts that are similar can share strategies, however, most accounts thrive off an individual plan. Helping create and find your individual plan can be a lot and that’s why I’m here to help save you time and energy with your Pinterest Business Account.

Templates
Now templates are not a strategy, however, they do help save you time once you have a strategy. If you haven’t invested in some good Pinterest templates, I highly recommend them as they will save you so much time and energy. As Pinterest is a visual search engine aesthetics are important and that’s where templates come in handy with being visually appealing for your blog posts and capturing your target audience.

Pinterest Strategies for Scheduling Pins
Part of your strategy should be checking on your analytics and scheduling pins during times where your content is most viewed. For myself, I have a lot of Pinterest traffic between 3-5 am. So, creating pins that release before/around that time always perform better than those I release in the afternoon (for initial analytics). So, under the analytics tab click on “past 24 hours” and check to see when the most traffic is going to your pins. This will help you solve the when to post on Pinterest question, as well as will easily create a Pinterest pinning strategy.
As well as scheduling, spread out your URLs to be 2-3 days apart. You never want to have the same URL going out back-to-back days, this could flag you as spam. You can use an excel file or calendar to keep track of it if you need it recorded.
Unlike Social Media Marketing you want multiple pins going out a day, spread them out, and ensure they’re going out each and every day of the year. Your marketing strategy should include having content always going out to help promote consistent website traffic from your Pinterest account.
Fresh Pins
One of the most important parts of any Pinterest marketing strategies is creating and scheduling fresh pins. One of the easiest ways to grow on Pinterest is always using fresh pins. This means a pin that Pinterest has never seen before. No, I don’t mean creating a whole new pin each time. When using Pinterest, you can find easy workarounds that can save you time while Pinterest is still viewing it as a fresh pin.
Colours – So you’ve got a pin with an image background that is red let’s say. Simply change the background now to pink – there’s a brand-new pin for Pinterest. So next time you make a pin create it with about 5-10 different background colours, it shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes total and then you’ve got 10 fresh pins.
Fonts – Similar to colours use different fonts. So, if you’ve got a cursive font, then trade it out for a bold font. Again, you can easily do this 5-10 times (if not more) and create a bunch of fresh pins without totally redesigning your pin. This will be seen as a new pin to Pinterest as long as there are changes.
Pictures – You can change out the image you’re using, apply a filter to the image or crop and resize it. All these methods will create a new pin in Pinterest’s eyes.
These 3 methods are easy an easy Pinterest strategy for bloggers who create blog post pins and can make minor tweaks. Make sure you’re using Pinterest seo with each pin.

Pinterest Strategies for your Boards
So, you’re spending all this time on creating beautiful pins, and they really aren’t going anywhere. It’s likely that your Pinterest search engine optimization is lacking. It’s important to include SEO into your board descriptions, board names and Pinterest images/pins. You should be using keywords throughout.
Simply updating your board descriptions to include relevant and current keywords, updating the titles and updating your keywords in pins can really make your reach even bigger with even old pins! Take a look at your boards and see the last time each board was updated. It’s best practice to update them every 3 months with new keywords that are relevant.
Keep your board titles simple and use 5-7 relevant and strong keywords in your descriptions. This is one of the easiest and simplest ways to have your pins working even harder for you without you needing to put even more time and effort into creating more pins.
An example – you have a board titled “dream living room décor ideas for my future home” that’s not SEO or set up for Pinterest strategies for business. You need your titles to be what pinners would search. So, an idea could be “living room décor” “living room aesthetic” “living room ideas”. Simply updating that title and your keywords to include these keywords: home décor, storage ideas, cleaning hacks, DIY décor, interior design, décor ideas and living room furniture you can really see your traffic turn around. Your keywords should match whatever your content is on that board.
Keyword Research
You’ve likely heard about SEO and Keywords as common terms when it comes to your Pinterest for Business success. Keywords is a very easy skill that you can work on and once you’ve got a good handle on it you’ll find your Pins are going so much farther and your audience will expand. Keywords are the words that Pinterest searches for to know what your content is. Without keywords Pinterest has no clue what you’re pinning and can’t index you properly – your pin might end up in the wrong category or not even being indexed.
Keywords are words that people search for on Pinterest. So let’s say I’m creating a pin for my migraines blog, here are some examples of keywords I can use:
- Migraine Health
- Migraine Pain
- Relief from Head Pain
- Migraine Foods
- Tension Pain
- Aura
- Migraine Relief
How did I find these? In your search bar type in the topic or word that is associated with your content. When you type the word you’ll find it auto-populates a bunch of words below as suggestions – these are your keywords. So I would type in Migraine and then it would populate with a bunch of words that are commonly searched with this. You’ll want to create a list of common topics you create for/pin for.
Each pin should use 5-7 keywords. You should use them in your Pinterest strategies by adding them to your pin image name, alt description, board names, board descriptions, pin descriptions and pin titles. Spread out your keywords among this area so that when Pinterest searches your pin it will know what the content is and properly index and show it on relevant searches.
Feeling overwhelmed by Keywords? I do keyword research so reach out if you’d like some provided to you for your use.

Pinterest Strategy Calls
As I mentioned above, accounts rarely work the same. There are basics that each account can use to flourish, however, most accounts thrive off an individual strategy that works best for that content and audience. If you’re unsure of where to start or what specific strategy pieces your account needs to continue to grow you can schedule a strategy call. These Pinterest strategy calls will provide you the 1:1 time to learn from me what exactly your account needs and how the exact steps you need to take with your account to reach your ideal audience, increase sales and grow your account!

This information is super helpful for bloggers. I have used Pinterest on and off for promoting my posts, but I really hope to use it more in the new year, especially since I am also beginning to wedding plan.
This was such an informative post. I honestly struggle with Pinterest so much.
Thank you for these amazing tips Alex! I’m definitely bookmarking this page xx
Awesome tips! I’m looking to improve my Pinterest marketing and this is helpful. Thank you for sharing!
Definitely keeping this – I was doing fairly well with Pinterest a little while ago when it came to posting idea pins; my impressions and engagement were going up! Then I was told I should remove myself from group boards and increase the number of personal boards I had. So I did, and my engagement is now non-existent! I’ll be saving your post and keeping my eye out for further strategies so thanks for sharing.
I really need to get back to my Pinterest. Lately I’m lucky to get one pin per new post put up, but I haven’t really worked very hard on keywords.
Thanks for this — my Pinterest account is all but dead so I will be putting these into place throughout 2022 to see if I can make more of it.
OK, I had NO idea that I could change the color of a pin for it to be a new pin! That’s amazing! If the picture is the same, does that still count though? Thanks for sharing this!
Lovely informative post for anyone struggling with discouraging decreasing Pinterest impressions.
This is my two cents with successful Pinterest marketing strategies – they work. It is a lot of work to be consistent irrespective of the Pinterest algorithm being tweaked over and over again – and again.
Saving time and speeding up Pinterest marketing time with colors and fonts is a fantastic takeaway of this article.
Bookmarked and shared.

Fantastic Caroline – I really hope it can help you with your Pinterest Marketing Strategies this year.
Great to hear – I hope this helps with increasing your pins reach and decreasing time spent on the platform.
Incredible to hear Idea Pins were helping – group boards are so tricky! Most of the time they don’t help your analytics but sometimes they can. You could have also seen a drop due to the holidays as everyone’s account took a dip when people exclusively started searching holiday content only. If your analytics haven’t started to bounce back then you might need to pivot with some new strategies. Glad this was helpful – keep consistent!
Keywords are definitely key with Pinterest, as well as always having pins going out consistently! Try scheduling your content regularly to go out daily (like 1-2 pins a day) and you’ll likely start to see your account grow over a couple of months.
I’m glad this was helpful Molly – I hope you’re able to turn your account around so it can be working for you! Happy Pinning

Pinterest is something that continues to baffle me because it seems that even when I follow the “rules” as strictly as possible, my pins aren’t seen. And then sometimes I don’t follow the “rules” at all, and my pins go viral. Sometimes I feel like it’s more of a luck of the draw than it is actual strategy. BUT, I’m still trying my best to put all of these strategies into play. I appreciate all your insight here!
I really need to start utilizing Pinterest in my overall strategy. Thanks for the tips!
These are all amazing tips! I think as you said consistency is key as well as Keyword research. i really enjoy working on Pinterest but sometimes it can be upsetting when it doesn’t go your way. Do you think the same URL in different days is not a good thing?

I hope these strategies will help you save some time and there is a strategy to it (although sometimes it is luck for a specific pins reach) to getting regular traffic and growth!
Best wishes Tim – I hope this was helpful for you!
