Easy Steps to follow for scheduling your Social Media posts through Canva

Being fairly new to the Blogging world – you can read all about my first month here, I’m currently close to being done my second, I’m always looking for useful tools to help me get tasks done quicker and more efficiently. I absolutely adore Canva for my Pinterest Pin Creation. I’ve spent the better part of the past two weeks trying to look at different scheduling apps/websites for Twitter.

Recently, I came across Canva having its own publishing and scheduling app built already into Canva. For me, this was amazing! For myself the idea of social media graphics is daunting, but with Canva I can easily make beautiful graphics using Canva for all my social media platforms. Doing all of this in one place is a dream for any entrepreneur who is juggling a lot and needs graphics and social posts to be easy and appealing to your audience. For myself, one of my favorite features is the Canva content planner. Having a content planner for Facebook post scheduling, Instagram business, Twitter and Pinterest makes it so easy to know what is going out when!

What can Canva Schedule?

For my business, I spend a half-day once a week going into Canva and creating all my social media graphics needed for my different platforms such as my Facebook page, Twitter posts, and Instagram stories and posts. As a business owner yourself, keeping up with social media platforms across multiple platforms can be exhausting and can feel like you’re always barely keeping up. With Canva you can do your scheduling for most social media posts through their site, their site outlines they provide scheduling for:

• Facebook Groups and Pages
• Instagram – Business Accounts
• Twitter
• LinkedIn
• Pinterest
• Slack
• Tumblr

For myself, I use Canva mainly for Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter. One of the first social media posts I used with Canva was using Twitter and I’ve been trying out the others to see how they work for that platform and for my strategies. I’ve just recently crossed my 6-month blogging milestone – curious to know what I’ve learned in that time check out that post!

What about content planning?

One of my must-haves for any business tool surrounding scheduling is the ability to plan. I naturally gravitate towards planning whenever I can, and I always look for business tools that help support that. With Canva they have tons of free and paid for planning tools at your disposal to use when you schedule social media posts using Canva. Canva schedule posts allow you to work as far ahead as you’d like, however, I only usually do a couple of weeks at a time!

When you log into Canva on the left-hand side toolbar you’ll see an option for “Content Planner” – here are the steps to using it.

1. Select Content Planner
2. Click the + sign on the top right of the date you’d like to plan content for
3. Click on your design or “my library” at the top right to find what you would like to publish
4. This will enable a pop up
   1. Click the three dots beside the date and time to change, date ad time, edit your design, make a copy or make a copy & resize.
   2. Click “choose a destination” to pick which social media you would like to post to
   3. Write a caption
5. You can either save draft or schedule your post.

You can click to go back to the Content Planner to see all your scheduled posts to see if there are any dates or times that are still needing to be filled.

What about scheduling after I’ve created my design?

I love batch work – what this means is I bulk to make a bunch of designs and templates for one piece of content all at once. This is one of my favourite strategies for Pinterest to help your account grow without it taking forever to create pins! What this means is you can batch make a bunch of templates or designs for any piece of content you have, save it and come back to schedule it a different day. For myself, what this means is an I create usually at the beginning of the week. I put aside half a day later in the week to schedule it out. In my past couple of months as a small business owner, I’ve found separating scheduling and designing works well for me to not feel a creative burnout!

Want to know how to use schedule social media posts Canva with designs you’ve saved in drafts of previously made? Following along to the instructions below!

1. Create/Open your Design
2. At the top right of the editor there are three dots – click those
3. Click or Type into the search bar that appears “Schedule”
4. Select Date and Time
5. Click Done
6. Then select “Schedule to” and select your social media.
7. Write your caption and then select schedule post to finish

I want to edit something I’ve Scheduled?

Everyone changes their minds sometimes, or sometimes a couple of hours later we think of a totally better caption (been there!). If this happens don’t sweat, it. Canva’s publishing tools allow you to go back in as many times as you’d like to change your designs, time, date, or comments.

To edit a post, you have previously schedule you will need to first access Canva’s content planner. Once in the content planner locate the post you’d like to update. Click on that post and then select the three dots, which allows you to edit the post.

One of the drawbacks with Canva schedule posts is that you cannot batch edit multiple posts. Let’s say you’ve scheduled a tweet to go out every week that you want to edit. You’ll need to go into each individual post you’ve scheduled and make the updated changes. This can be a frustrating feature, and I do hope in the future Canva is able to release an update to their content planner to help support this for creators.

The Good and the Bad of Canva Scheduling!

So now that I’ve walked you through the basics of how to use Canva for scheduling your Social Media posts don’t you want to know my true thoughts? For myself, someone who adores Canva, there were a lot of great pluses with using this but I did stumble across a couple of things I wish it had. Canva is frequently being updated so future updates might include these items!

Good	Bad
– Scheduling multiple platforms in one place – simple to use designs without needing to download/re-upload them – content planner is easy to use – no time limit on how far ahead to schedule posts (or on that, I could find!) – included in the pro cost (no additional costs)	– no current way to save captions for multiple similar posts – no way to batch edit or batch schedule -currently no emoji’s need to be used from a different platform and copy/paste over

Final Thoughts on Canva Social Meida

In the past 7 months of using Canva daily for my business, I can say confidently that it is a great business tool when it comes to scheduling your social media posts. I do think there are still things this platform can improve on and learn from. Such as some tools I really enjoy on Later for Instagram Scheduling. I’m eager to see what Canva comes out with in the future for scheduling social media post features. From the past year, it does appear this is a space they are focusing their efforts on to help users be able to enjoy these functions of the platform.

Canva also has a lot of helpful how-to guides on their site, so you can also check those out to see if it has the features, you’d like for your social media business needs. As a pro user, I really enjoy the social media posting features and do wish more were included in the free version!
